Things to do in Koh Phangan, Thailand
If you seek for a calm tropical island in Thailand where you can explore picturesque beaches and feel the ‘’sabai’’ (relaxed) rhythm of thai life, Koh Phangan is the right place for you.
Koh Phangan stands in the middle of two other lovely islands; Koh Samui, the biggest one of the three and most luxurious and Koh Tao, the smallest one and a diving and snorkeling paradise. All three are also ideal during the rainy season due to limited rainfall.
The easiest way to reach Koh Phangan from Bangkok is to take an internal flight to Koh Samui (its airport is in the list with the most beautiful airports in the world) and then take a 30-minute ferry to Koh Phangan from Bangrak Pier (the closest to the airport).
Koh Phangan has a variety of marvelous beaches that you can explore during your stay. Here are some of my favorites:
Thong Nai Pan Beach: one of the most beautiful beaches of the island located at its east part. Its long sandy beach and clear blue green water make it ideal for swimming. The local Thai old ladies gathering seashells from the shore create an unforgettable image!
Secret Beach: The perfect place to relax and sunbath is the Secret beach, a small sandy, hidden among palm trees, beach. Even if its water is quite shallow, the scenery is stunning. At the north side of the beach is located Koh Raham (https://maps.app.goo.gl/J6t7SoxW4nx7femA6), a marvelous café-restaurant at the edge of the cliff. The view during sunset from this spot is breathtaking.
Koh Ma beach: another lovely sandy beach is Koh Ma beach. What makes it special is a little island (Koh= means island in Thai language) connected with the rest of the beach with a narrow sandy path. For those who love snorkeling this beach also offers beautiful snorkeling spots.
Zen Beach: One more serene sandy beach with clear water is Zen Beach. Its calm water makes it ideal for swimming while the sunset views are incredible. The relaxed atmosphere is enhanced by the nice music of the little bars found also at the beach.
Haad Rin: the amazing, calm, long white sanded beach with the crystal water, located at the south part of the island cannot be omitted from your list of beaches during your stay at the island. The same beach loses its calm character and is transformed into a wild and amusing beach party during the Full Moon Party. Try to be at the island on that day of the month to enjoy this unforgettable experience. The beach is full of different stages and DJ’s with all kind of music from the sunset till the sunrise. Endless dancing, drinking and multicolor glow face painting are a must during the party.
C&M Culture Center: If you love Thai food and you wish to enhance your cultural experience by learning Thai original and delicious (‘aroi’ in thai language) recipes, you should have cooking classes at C&M Culture Center (https://g.co/kgs/YGHfMcu). You will be able to learn everything about the thai local products, little recipe secrets while you meet other people, cook with them and create unforgettable memories at the school’s outdoor super organized kitchen next to a beautiful lake. Of course, you need to eat everything that you have cooked with your own hands, so be prepared for a full tasty gastronomic experience.
