How to spend 2 days in Chiang Mai and day trip to Chiang Rai

Chiang Mai at the north of Thailand definitely deserves a visit during your stay in the unique Asian country. Its relaxed atmosphere and green scenery are some of the reasons that thai people use to move in after their jubilation. Apart from its enchanting nature, here are some more reasons that you should visit this tranquil city.

Buddhism Temples

If you observe the map, the city’s center is surrounded by the river forming a big perfect square full of Buddhism temples inside it and at its surroundings. You can wander around the center exploring its stunning temples and calm streets.

Among my favorites are:

Wat Phra Singh Woramahawihan (https://maps.app.goo.gl/W4268n7XxvGCgNRM9)

Wat Chedi Luang (https://maps.app.goo.gl/eT9JWAGt2Qg13BnVA)

Wat Chiang Man (https://maps.app.goo.gl/cpaDQ5Rm66i59gRt9)

Wat Lok Moli (https://maps.app.goo.gl/i5khCvqFx2zWcEbz8)

Wat Rajamontean (https://maps.app.goo.gl/CVmmT2CyuP3ceCor7).

Outside of the city center (about 30 minutes by car or taxi) you may find Wat Phra That Doi Suthep (https://maps.app.goo.gl/NvFEkfnTdm36y96m6), a breathtaking complex of temples and pagodas with a stunning view of the whole city as it is located at the mountain’s slope, and Wat Phra That Doi Kham (https://maps.app.goo.gl/jZ4ufyGQEQKUCqa78), composed by impressive huge Budha statues and another incredible viewpoint. Make sure to have your knees and shoulders covered when entering the temples.

Markets and Night Markets

Thailand is the paradise of endless shopping and the most delicious street food. Chiang Mai cannot be an exception. Therefore, make sure to walk around its many markets and night markets and enjoy the yummiest street food while shopping. The most popular markets and night markets are the following:

Wua Lai Walking Street (https://maps.app.goo.gl/E8VrZAp8TdAbuyQD6) (night market)

Anusarn Market (https://maps.app.goo.gl/p62CvAp8szgr3BU19) (night market)

Chang Phuak Gate Night Market - Food Stalls (https://maps.app.goo.gl/aLA7kx92JJ4cFvK98) (night market)

Chiang Mai Night Bazaar (https://maps.app.goo.gl/BNuE8H1r43d79tW69) (night market)

Warorot Market (Kad Luang) (https://maps.app.goo.gl/C6uh71fF1kBuYBCv6)

Speaking of food, don’t miss the opportunity to taste the region’s delicious signature dish Khao Soi, a mouthwatering curry noodle dish with crispy noodles on top. I totally recommend trying it at สุคนธ์ (https://maps.app.goo.gl/Wvbk1FHYDKGYwuGC7).

Thai Massage

A traditional Thai massage or a hot oil massage is always the best decision to relax both body and mind when in Thailand. Therefore, from the list of to do things, a good massage cannot be omitted. I had one of the best massages in my life at Chinola Massage (https://maps.app.goo.gl/WnejEy1inR8Xz2Wg6) at the city’s center. Totally recommended!

Yoga Classes

If you seek for yoga classes and meditation among beautiful paddy fields with a mountain view along with a marvelous place to stay in Chiang Mai, The Oriental Village Resort (https://maps.app.goo.gl/Kycmi4YmedT8GoTr7) is the ideal for you. A hidden gem situated a few kilometers outside the city’s center is the perfect place to experience the ‘sabai’ style of Thai life.
