How to spend 2 days in Osaka, Japan
Osaka is a vibrant city with an intense urban character different from Tokyo. Let's check out the sites you can visit during your 2-day stay.
Osaka’s Castle
One of the most stunning buildings that you can’t possibly miss. Decorated by gold and surrounded by water, the castle and its gardens travel you to another era. You can visit its museum or/and enjoy the incredible view of the city from its top.
Dotonbori, Namba district
Τhe most extravagant areas I have ever seen is in the center of Osaka next to Dotonbori River (sometimes I felt like being at a psychiatric hospital). Take a walk or a boat ride on its canals and wander around the whole area which is full of buildings, restaurants, bars with neon lights and enormous signs. Don’t miss the Glico running man’s huge sign which is one of the most famous city’s landmarks. During the night it is even more impressive. Of course, Takoyaki is the protagonist of the district’s street food and an absolute must and must and must eat….
America Mura
At walking distance from the Glico running man’s sign you can find America Mura, a zone not only full of nice vintage stores for shopping, bars and calmer cafes but also impressive graffities on its walls.
Shopping Streets
Very close to America Mura starts the Shinsaibashi-Suji Shopping Street, full of all kinds of brands for clothes, accessories, cosmetics and street food. Kuromon Ichiba Market is also located within walking distance, and you can find mostly house products (beautiful chopsticks, unique tea pottery to take as souvenirs) at very good prices. The longest shopping street of Osaka (Tenjinbashi-suji shopping street) is not far by metro from its center, and it is a must visit due to its variety of goods, local restaurants with delicious food and small shiatsu massage studios with the best prices I found in Japan.
TeamLab Botanical Garden
When digital technology meets nature, the result is breathtaking and is called TeamLab Botanical Garden. During the night the botanical garden is transformed into an incredible outdoor art exhibition. Special signs help you discover the area which is full of colors, lights and unique pieces of art (some of which you can touch and play with) all mixed with the nature.
Umeda Sky Building
If you like stunning views and enjoy architectural miracles this is the perfect place to be. The Umeda Sky Building consists of two towers which are connected through an electric escalator that leads to a 360° open observatory deck. The view is incredible.
